    Message of Recommendation

A New Beginning for the Future of Responsible Management

Advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies, climate and environmental change, evolving industrial structures, and emerging societal expectations are creating new opportunities and possibilities for corporations, public institutions, and other organizations. At the same time, these changes call for deeper responsibility for the impacts that organizational decisions and activities may have on society and the environment, diverse stakeholders, and future generations.

Against this backdrop of change, the WORLD FEDERATION OF POWER LEADERS (WFPL) recognized the need to consider organizational responsibility from a broader and longer-term perspective, rather than limiting it to current performance or particular areas. With this recognition, WFPL initiated research and development of the WF Sustainable Responsibility Index (WFSRI) in January 2017.

A key objective of this research was to develop an approach capable of considering organizational responsibility more broadly, encompassing responsibilities toward society and the environment, diverse stakeholders and communities, and present and future generations, rather than limiting responsibility to current performance or particular areas.

This research could not be completed in a short period of time. As social and industrial environments changed and new technologies and risks emerged, the meaning and scope of Responsible Management required continuing examination. Following nearly a decade of research and review, the WORLD FEDERATION OF POWER LEADERS (WFPL) finalized the WFSRI on November 1, 2025.

This White Paper on the WF Sustainable Responsibility Index (WFSRI) is particularly meaningful in that it brings together the accumulated research outcomes and philosophical foundations of the WFSRI and systematically presents the principal concepts and structure of Responsible Management evaluation established and operated by SEC (Sustainable Enterprise Evaluation Commission) on the basis of those research outcomes.

Most importantly, this White Paper approaches Responsible Management not as a particular management activity or a temporary trend, but as a continuing process through which organizations recognize their impacts and fulfill responsibilities corresponding to those impacts throughout their policies, systems, decision-making, and operations.

Decisions made today affect not only the present but also the future. Choices concerning the environment and resources, technology and investment, policy and management may shape the future of society, as well as the environment and opportunities available to future generations. In this sense, Responsible Management should extend beyond present performance and responsibility to encompass responsibility for the future.

As social, environmental, industrial, and technological conditions continue to evolve, research and discussion concerning Responsible Management must also continue to develop. The WORLD FEDERATION OF POWER LEADERS (WFPL) will continue its efforts to advance Responsible Leadership, Public Value, and Social Value while contributing to the broader development of a culture of Responsible Management and a sustainable society.

We hope that this White Paper will serve as a meaningful reference for corporations, public institutions, other organizations, research institutions, policymakers, investors, and diverse stakeholders seeking to understand Responsible Management and explore future directions.

We further hope that it will contribute to broader discussion, both in our society and internationally, on Responsible Management, responsibility toward future generations, and new directions for sustainable development.

    Thank you.
